American Dreams Found In Thompsonville of Enfield, Connecticut!

The New Spirit Of Thompsonville

Welcome To Thompsonville Action Group

This is a newly forming group to answer the call of community reform and activism. The group is created by Thompsonville community members looking to implement change for a better quality of life here.

We are regular folks looking to live peacefully, safely, and proudly in our historic village. We have seen many defeats, have endured the effects of absentee landlords who rent to bad people, we have seen too many homes sold to non family corporate entities, we have been forgotten and ignored by the wheels of progress largely stiffled by politics in Enfield--all causing the lack of "normalization" we want that the rest of Enfield enjoys. Our image has been soiled for years--unfairly.

This group or one like it should have been created long ago--too often we have tried to let "others" do our work for us and in the end--not satisfactory for what we want and need. We need change and we are the ones who must do it, from there all the other avenues will see we mean business and work with us-- not for us and not against us. They (like the town government, police, neighbors, civic and church groups and the like) need to see we are fighting for our own and we care about ourselves and our neighborhood and will stand up for it!

We need our children to be safe, feel proud of our heritage and village, to be looked after and cared for by all of us--just like the old days. Offer them things to do--not drugs.

We need our families to want to be here. Not rent for one year and run away, we want them to buy here. We want families to be proud here because our area is so special.

We want our shops to succeed--one year we lost 4 businesses -we need to support our business and stand up for them when we need to.

We want landlords that care about their buildings, they and their tenants and be a viable part of the communty. We have to develope a plan for scaring off those who just want to rape our community for their financial gain. We need standards for any owner who is off site--and create or enforce blight ordinance conditions that arise from this activity.

We need a revitalization plan in order. we need to make our Town accountable for what has been neglected--they need to know how hard some areas have been hit by all or most of the conditions mentioned, and we won't take it any more!

We need to embrace the Enfield Police and treasure our new Chief who is from this area and help him do what he can to help us. Get the Enfield Police Steering Committee back in our lives to help them help us.

We need to share with our new Town Manager and tell him some of what we have been enduring so he can make proposals to the town council. And get to know William Edgar our District 2 councilman who SERVES our needs today..right now...he is there for us. Council people are elected by us to serve our needs!!!!!

There are other missions as well, beautification, building improvements, ecomomic issues, ordinances in need of being created, neighborhood patroling and accountability and on the less serious note--lots of events and fun projects!  So Get on board and let's get going!

The Henry Thompson house on Prospect Street.
A gorgeous Greek Revival and one of the last of it's kind by this architect in the nation. Not too long ago I caught contractors ripping off the gingerbread on the house saying the State did not want to pay for the upkeep any longer as it is a State home. Well guess what..the State has this house on it's mandatory inventory of significant historical buildings. Oops
With the help of Roger Alsbaugh from the Town we were able to stop further destruction of Thompsonville and all the pieces were restored that went in the dumpster.
